The Political Critique team met with partner organizations from the Visegrad countries in Kiev between 21-24 July to evaluate their work as well as discuss independent media in the region and to share experiences of journalistic work.
What is the future of digital journalism? What are the common topics that concern the Visegrad region and the extended neighbourhood? How can we work together to create a better cultural understanding between countries and cooperate on common social and political causes through online media? These are the questions that workshop participants addressed over the course of their stay in Kiev.
During a series of meetings and discussions, the team from each respective organization presented their experiences of how their newsroom functions, as well as discussing the media and political situations in their countries. The work of Political Critique Ukraine (Політична критика) as well as the Visual Culture Research Centre (VCRC) was introduced to the teams visiting Kiev. Participants also visited Hromadske TV and met with its head, journalist Nataliya Gumenyuk.
Following these meetings and discussion groups, a plan was formulated regarding the future of the cooperation on Political create and how to further develop them in terms of what texts are to be published, how to utilize social media more effectively to reach more readers, how to communicate more efficiently, as well as the future of the project, in particular with regards to funding. The teams agreed on more international participation including joint commentaries on issues from all V4 countries and beyond in order to foster a sense of regional understanding and cooperation. The meeting in Kiev provided all of the participants with a chance to get to know one another, to learn from one another and to establish a plan as to how to work more cohesively to ensure the successful future of the publication.
